Eudists' Philippines Mission

Update on the Philippines Project

Ron's arrival to the Philippines

May 2006

I arrived in Manila on Thursday at 4:15 AM (that is 4:15 PM Wednesday in Buffalo). Since we did not need to make a refueling stop in Hawaii, the plane was an hour and a half early and that is after it left LA an hour later than scheduled. That was to make sure we were not in Manila before the airport opened at 4:00 AM. The trip only took about 13 hours (instead of 16 hours).

One of the seminarians picked me up and brought me to Tagaytay. Fr. Amadeo (from Colombia) has been here since March 5. We are staying with the Good Shepherd Sisters at Maryridge Spiritual Renewal Center until the end of May. We had our first community meeting this morning to begin to take care of some logistical things. One of the things we agreed on was that we will serve as chaplains for this community of Sisters.

When I arrived in Manila, it was 84 degrees (at 4:00 AM). Fortunately it is not quite so hot in Tagaytay. There is always a breeze here and that helps.

This Saturday I will celebrate my 29th anniversary of ordination at Mass with the Sisters... my first anniversary in the Philippines.

For the time being I have dialup internet service at Maryridge. When we move, we hope to have DSL. In the meantime, this works pretty well. Just don't send any "heavy" files.

I will update you as news comes along. And I will send personal replies to anyone who writes. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers. All is going well.

Peace,
Ron
