Workshop on Eudist Prayer

On August 11-12, Fr. Ron Bagley and Fr. Amadeo Pedroza conducted a workshop on Eudist Prayer for the novices, junior sisters, and formators of the Good Shepherd Sisters. It was held at Maryridge in Tagaytay. Ron and Amadeo led the Sisters in an examination of the various ways that St. John Eudes recommended his disciples to pray, as well as the "four movements" of Eudist prayer that were developed at Champboise in Qubec and La Roche-du-Thiel in France. The workshop included presentations as well as ample time to experience the prayer being described.

Feast of St. John Eudes

August 19, 2006 marked another first for the Eudists in the Philippines: it was the first time we celebrated the feast of St. John Eudes in this country. We had a wonderful day with the Good Shepherd Sisters. Over 100 Sisters and friends gathered at the compound in Quezon City. Ron gave a presentation on St. John Eudes as a person. Amadeo gave an overview of the major themes in St. John Eudes' spirituality. Ron preached at the concelebrated Mass  and lunch followed.

St. Brigid School - Batangas City

On August 21-22, Ron and Amadeo visited Batangas City for the first time. It has great historical significance for the Good Shepherd Sisters in the Philippines because it was where they began. St. Brigid School was their first foundation in the Philippines. Now, St. Brigid's has an enrollment of over 4,000 students from kindergarten through college.

On Monday we arrived and had dinner with the Good Shepherd Sisters. After dinner, we had time to become better acquainted. We shared how we came to the Philippines and what we are doing. The Sisters told us about themselves and their ministry.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Mass with the Sisters. Then we gave a presentation to a group of the teachers on St. John Eudes. We used the themes illustrated in the stain glass windows at Charlesbourg: John Eudes as Prophet of the Heart, Founder of Congregations, Friend of the Poor, and Preacher. We also gave the teachers the prayer cards showing pictures of the windows.

We also spoke to some of the 12th grade students about St. John Eudes using a similar format. Even though the room was full, it was only a small percentage of the entire school which is very large.

After lunch we visited a program that benefits the poor people of the area. It is a self help program that was begun by the Good Shepherd Sisters and has now been turned over to the people themselves. We were very impressed by all the good work they have done over the years. It is called B.U.B.I. for short (see picture).
