The History of St. John Eudes (1601-1680) This French saint died at Caen in Normandy, France, on August 19, 1680 and was canonized in 1925. He fought vigorously against Jansenism and was one of the principal reformers of the Church in seventeenth-century France. Born in Normandy, he was educated by the Jesuits and later entered the Congregation of the Oratory founded by Berulle at Paris. Ordained a priest in 1625, he later was named superior of the Oratorians at Caen, but still continued his apostolate of preaching popular missions and giving conferences to the clergy. In 1643, John Eudes left the Oratorians in order to found the Congregation of Jesus and Mary (popularly known as Eudists), whose purpose was to preach parish missions, and to conduct seminaries. In 1641, he founded the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, a branch of which eventually became the Sisters of the Good Shepherd. He was the first to promote devotion to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. After 48 years of ministry, he died at the age of 79.
A vocation as an associate involves a commitment, by women or men, who feel called by the Holy Spirit to unite their lives to God more intensely through a promise to fraternal life and fellowship. that is Sisterhood/Brotherhood. Associates of the Congregation, founded by Saint John Eudes witness to Christ and spread the Good News of the gospel by striving to live as a transforming presence, or "leaven" in contemporary society, endeavoring to restore all things in Christ while living in their own residence and engaging in the employment of their choice. Hence, their entire lifestyle of prayer, work and social activities become their apostolate. Associates exchange information and discuss how this style of life can bring Christ to the world and the world to Christ.
Associates commit themselves to integrate in their life a certain form of sharing of the Eudist spiritual experience. They participate, whenever possible, in activities offered to the Eudists in the area of spirituality. They take part, according to their possibility in the programs of spiritual formation. They bring testimony, in their own way, of their Christian faith experience to other Eudists. They spend time studying the spirituality of a Eudist and sharing whenever possible, moments of prayer and communal celebration. An associate will integrate the Eudist apostolic priorities of evangelization and formation to ministry, to their personal commitments, existing ministries, where they live, work or in their service to the Christian Community.
Any single or married lay person who is emotionally mature, balanced psychologically, and who is self-supporting can seek membership as an Associate of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary. The Eudist Community also accepts, as associates, those individuals who are handicapped, who have had marriages annulled, have been divorced, or are widowed. Members live in their own residence, dress in attire similar to their colleagues and work in or are retired from various positions such as secretaries, laborers, doctors, social workers, educators, office workers, nurses or lawyers. They provide for their own retirement and health needs. Individual members find the strength and courage to fully live their unique vocation in a spiritual life nurtured by daily prayer, meditation and the Eucharist.

Associate Yearly Retreats Plan for Community Life regarding Eudist Associate Retreats Retreat
Announcement:
ASSOCIATE POSSIBLE PROJECTS The FIRST CALL to all associates is to maintain a strong emphasis on prayer and scriptures in all our interaction and in our ministry. And, based on the two main purposes of the Congregation: 1) evangelization and 2) the formation of good laborers of the Gospels plus another purpose particular to the Associates 3) to support and assist the incorporated members of the Congregation (priests and lay members) by prayers and other means. The associates can work in a variety of projects to accomplish these goals. Here follow a list of possibilities including associate projects underway:
1) Develop their own evangelization and ministry project based on a pastoral need in their parish community. 2) Assist in one or more of the C.J.M. (or) projects of the local Eudist Community. 3) Help develop more extensively and publicize the English section of the Eudist page on the Internet. 4) Acquire a house that would be a center for the associates and a residence for some of them. This house could be used as a center for retreats based mainly on Eudist spirituality and vocational discernment for lay, religious or priests.
1) Develop a vocation program where associates would identify possible candidates to the priesthood and religious life, then call them to this way of life, pray and support them in their vocational search. Such a program would of course try to direct persons to any congregation or diocese but should pay special attention to the needs of the Eudists and congregations of our spiritual family. 2) Help the local Eudist community to develop a screening plan for candidates and a formation program that could be conducted in our area. 3) Develop a vocation program and publicity material directed at specific Ethnic groups were vocations are abundant.
1) Support persons that are already involved in a ministry by inviting them to join the Eudist associates or another support program or associates’ program that better serve their need. 2) Organize a formation program for persons interested in becoming a Eudist associate 3) Develop a recruitment plan for potential candidates to be associated.
1) Organize and participate in Eudist spirituality sessions for the general public. 2) Conscious of the diversity of Ethnic groups in our area, develop a Eudist associates’ program directed at the such groups as the Hispanic, Philippino and Vietnamese. 3) Call fellow parishioners and friends to serve in ministries we have identified. 4) Participate whenever possible in evangelization and ministry training offered by the Diocese, the parish or the Eudist community.
Support of the Eudists: 1) Help Eudist who are retired or disabled to continue their ministry. 2) Adopt particular Eudists for whom the associate would offer prayers and sacrifices in support of their ministry. The associate would also ask these Eudists to pray for the associate and his/her ministry. 3) Be alert for opportunities for the Eudists to give retreats and recollections. 4) To serve as substitute for one of the Eudists when appropriate.
In an effort to be One with the Father, as our Lord Jesus is One with the Father, we choose to pursue this project in the Holy Spirit. The vision of prayer link is to more readily enable the gifts of the Holy Spirit to inspire, strengthen, and guide our community. The mission of prayer link is to promote growth and solidarity within our community in such a way that the mission of the community is, measurably, more readily accomplished. The goals of prayer link are to provide each incorporated member with at least two associate members for whom to pray; and to provide each associate member with at least one incorporated member for whom to pray. The activity of prayer link begins with each community member contacting in prayer his or her prayer partner. Contacting may include phoning, EMailing, visiting, etc. - you decide.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
